It's easy to be a customer and just be upset you didn't get everything you paid for that was advertised and I get that.

For me though, $51.50 has been a deal even with the hiccups, because I know Dweezil'a had a lot on his plate between the pandemic, this podcast, the computer issues that came up, his studio build, planning and mounting (I think) two tours after it was finally safe enough to tour again (saw you at the Warfield, Dweezil), and that's just the public facing stuff. There's been real life going on for all of us in the interim too.

I'm on board for everything he's able to give us on this so far and much of it has given me a lot of repeated listening enjoyment (listening to John Shanks while I type this), so I'm ok with waiting for the rest.

I am curious if we'll see more fractal presets because I've been loving the VH1 and VH2 presets so far and have had fun cannibalizing to make my own presets for 1984, etc, but since I know it ain't easy running your own shop I think I'm on the patient side of the clubhouse over here.

Allen G.

Hey Kenny, there was major world touring going on in that time frame and all kinds of other pursuits! Give him a break!

Kenny L.

Minion...

Allen G.

I simply advise gratitude and patience. You’ve spent less than what it would cost to eat a meal for this and there really is a treasure trove of information and learning about Edward to be had here. Be happy for all that has been shared here and patient for what will come to wrap it all up.

Kenny L.

"I simply advise gratitude and patience."

I don't remember asking you for your advice.

It's been more than a year and a half since epidose 29.

More than a yeatr and a half...

Allen G.

Right. But did you think that this was going to be an ongoing series until the end of time?! I mean really, what more do you want?

Kenny L.

I want what I pay for... all 30 episodes.

And a waiting time of more than 18 months, to me, is unacceptable.

Allen G.

And you will get it.

Allen G.

Hey everyone! I’m excited for Episode 30 and hearing the goodies that Dweezil has in store for us!

I wanted to share a little something extra for the guitar players which I shared with Dweezil a while back…my transcription of “Mean Street”:

 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z2snl1yPsfNSfdNHWK9Ucjgqg8jPIqC_/view?usp=drivesdk

As usual with my transcriptions, I’ve examined all available footage and consulted all available isolated tracks to help with the fingering and picking directions that I like to include to really notate the physical playing of the parts as close to what the available evidence shows were the actual articulation choices that Ed used most often live to inform what he most likely did on the album.

I also like to notate instances where an obvious edit occurs…for example, note in Bar 2 where I’ve made the text notation “Tape Edit”. This denotes such an edit to let you know that it can be physically difficult to position shift fast enough to get to these notes from the previous hand positions. I try my best to link these sections and accomplish the position shifts as quickly as possible to imitate what happens in time on the album, but I know and the footage and bootleg live recordings show that Edward never actually linked these two sections together when he played these parts live. One can only do their very best to try to make this fretboard position transition as fast and as seamless as possible. You’ll see several people online who have made this transition flow very well…’Runnin’ With the Dweezil’ guest and guitarist extraordinaire Jacob Deraps is one such person-Jacob really does a great job with this transition, while I still practice it and hope for the best!

Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!

Gareth

Thanks Alan.  I was just watching some of Jim Gaustad's videos and he mentioned you and I decided to check on the forum here.

Allen G.

Excellent! Jim is a longtime buddy and he’s been very kind! He’s really accomplished some special things with his Tonex Brown Sound captures. I have to come to terms with modeling and Jim and Tonex have made very convincing options for all of us to enjoy and at a really low cost with high quality!

Is Dweezil using Frank Zappa signature Optima gold-plated strings in 8 - 46?  I think he mentioned using 8s in an interview, but I can't find it so I might have imagined this.  He definitely seems to be using gold-plated strings though.  I'd be curious to know his reason for using the gold-plated strings - is it a tonal choice, or something that makes playing easier.

Dweezil

I do have Optima strings on several guitars and they are gold plated. They are the strings and gauges my dad used. 8-10-13-24-32-46. They do have a brightness to them that I like and the gold is actually anti-microbial so the strings feel better longer.

Can we expect episode 30 in 2025 or will we have to wait until 2026?
