BENNETT F.

can you make all downloads mp3 so I dont have to convert?

Dweezil

Hi Bennett,

It's a bit of a quandary because I am offering the hi quality files and there are folks who definitely want the lossless files. I'm not sure I'll be able to offer mp3s and FLAC or Wave files. Maybe we can revisit this a little later on.

BENNETT F.

thanks for getting back to me, it seemed like some were mp3 and some were flac, so I thought it was an oversight. NBD!...on a separate note, PLEASE spend a lot of time on 5150 and live without a net. both are really influential to the generation just after yours. I think 5150 and summer nights are 2 of the best songs in the entire catalog. Also, the sole in LWAN combines, eruption, cathedral, etc and, to me is the definitive live version.

Give Dweezil a break, and quit auditioning for the 1st string skin flutist spot. It's not like he's supplying a heart or liver transplant.  The episodes that have been produced so far have been awesome, so let's give him some room to continue his streak.

It would be nice to know when the episodes are coming. Or that they will show up when they show up. But to be told to expect a certain day and not see it is disappointing.  Doesn't help that it is difficult to know where to get an update...instragram,  a blog post?

I end up refreshing this page twice a day just in case the next episode is there. Again, not a big deal but neither is someone asking when they should expect it.

Dweezil

Hi Miles,

Sorry for the delay. I'm working hard to finish the episode. There won't always be delays but the last few weeks have had some unavoidable delays, starting with computer hard drive issues that ate up a lot of time to get sorted. Even though I got behind I didn't want to decrease the quality of the episodes so I've really been working overtime to get these things done, more than 10 hours a day.

I do think you'll notice that Fair Warning episode 2 has extra layers of detail and then it may make more sense as to why it took longer to finish it.

Anyway, thanks for your patience and understanding. I hope to get the episode up on the site ASAP.

Best, DZ

I’m not sure why your mind or mouth goes in that direction right to start off with but that’s all on you ... no one is critical of anything, I too have enjoyed every episode  thus far  which is why we eagerly await all week the next episode to come out on Thursday at 3:00 pst. Also, why we check back so often hoping to catch the next installment. Anyways, Dweezil is the man and I love the content so far. You my friend , the critic, pal (largo circa 198o ish), you know who you are, can do what Dave told the critic and mind you own business for one thing.

Dweezil

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for chiming in. I don't like disappointing the faithful listeners who are eagerly awaiting the next episodes. I apologize for the wait time. I've been trying very hard to keep the episodes on schedule but my computer problems set me back a few weeks ago and I'm still trying to catch up. I also put in an extreme amount of overtime to make Fair Warning extra special. Part 2 has some really cool and fun stuff in it and I appreciate your patience. It's almost finished. It really takes time to create the transitions and flow of the extra content and I think you will enjoy the results when you hear the episode.

In any case, I'm working hard to finish Fair Warning part 2 and my hope is to have it up on the site today before 3pm PST. That's what I'm shooting for at least.

Thanks again for your patience everyone. As I've said before, future episodes won't have as much post production so I should be able to get back to a normal schedule.

Best, DZ

Where’s the episode ?

Dweezil

Sorry, I'm still working on it! When you hear it you will know why it has taken so long. I appreciate your patience.

I just come right to the bundle ( and of course your music ).  Btw beings you mentioned it and I was thinking it the whole ep. the post production ,, well,,, it was fucking killer.  Really enhanced it ,, I was actually kinda expecting that originally ( I’ve listened to your pops the maestro and you since I was 14) so to see you our your “ touch” on it was excellent

These are getting better and better Dweezil. Absolutely loving them. Congrats man.

Great Episode!!  I've listened to Episodes #1-4 so far. I love these!. The VH album WACF is probably my fourth favorite Van Halen album. That being said, I do have fond memories of WACF. While I was in High School, A good friend of mine would pick me up for school in his Very Starsky and Hutch looking Grand Torino. Also two or three other friends in the back seat. My buddy Steve had a strict rule, No talking while the music was playing. This was a funny rule because Steve had the loudest car stereo I had ever heard. The year was 1980 and I had owned a vinyl copy of WACF myself but Steve was playing this most awesome cassette deck in the neighborhood. These were the best car rides ever. There's nothing like listening to Van Halen cranked up to Ten to start your day. Other cassettes that where also in heavy rotation in Steve's car that year were VH I & II and The Cars' first two records but WACF was Steve's favorite I think. Good Times!

"Everybody Want's Some" Dave's lyric, I never tried to decipher what Dave was actually saying but to me I always thought it was something like,

"something something something Looking For Some Whoopie".

Tomorrow Episode #5

Thanks for these!

Just finished the episode. Fantastic guys. Can't wait for next week. And Dweezil that solo outtake from Hear About it Later is amazing. I always thought that Push Comes to Shove was where I heard the Holdsworth influence but certainly some out there stuff on that outtake as well. Thanks for sharing

I think to this day, Fair Warning is the only album that I took the needle (yes the needle) off 15 seconds into it to start again as I could not believe what I was hearing. That intro is other worldly.

Nuno is such an awesome nice guy. I met him once and he told me a story of his first meeting with Frank. Amazing. Great stuff.

Hi Dweezil , this series is truly excellent - you've put such thought and attention to detail into creating it I'm certain EVH would be very proud. I've listened only to the Blues episode in full - and your'e spot on I've had/ heard a version of WACF without the song Growth ! . Also re Dave being a great  acoustic playing -didn't play and sing a tune called 79th and Sunset ? . Well done Dweezil - as I listen  I'm taken back to high school with my friends and I discussing VH I and how they blew Sabbath away when they supported here on the U.K. tour in '78 .

During your Sunset Sound interviews you guys were speculating what songs Ed wrote on piano for “Fair Warning”. Obviously “One Foot Out The Door” was one, but Ed mentioned in an interview that the other one was “Hear About It Later”. I have also read Edward mention that the genesis of the intro to “Mean Streets” was as a slap bass part. Just amazing where he took it. Excellent shows thus far Dweezil. I am stoked to hear Nuno’s second episode. Very happy to hear you two together again (as I loved “Confessions”. Keep up the awesome!

It wasn’t until a few months ago that I realized just how much the “Hear About It Later” solo birthed the solo section of “Gotta Get To You.” As a kid in 1990 I only had a passing familiarity with Fair Warning. I was all about learning the 5150 and Carnal Knowledge stuff.

So great to hear you and Nuno together again. I hope y’all played some pentacostal scales. “No, dude, DON’T SAY THAT!!”

Brett J.

Dweez, excellent job here. But you’re going to have to release the unedited version of the Nino episodes. I’m sure there’s enough tape to fill another 6 or 7 hours. His passion for Ed really comes through. Great stuff!

Dweezil

We did talk for almost 3 hours. I'm working on EP 2 now. We covered a lot of ground! Glad you're enjoying the series.

Michael M.

That outtake solo was crazy! Who else listened to this more than five times?!

And yes, some Holdsworth vibes for sure...

Dweezil

I listened to it way more than that!

Caleb R.

This is gold! I've wanted to hear a show like this for years, fascinating. Interested to see what Dweezil does with the Fractal EVH preset!

freak6767

YAY!! off to put some headphones on and listen! Thank you Dweezil! May 2021 brings you a new computer ahahaha

Scott D.

Well worth the wait. The cassette tape was fantastic. I knew this would be a great podcast, but it keeps exceeding expectations. Well done!

Einar F.

With the Edward Van Halen cassette-like moments in life...good-grief, they're (for many of us) the very best parts of 80's media...Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Better Off Dead, Back To The Future...and you had an EVH homemade cassette personally handed to you (in STORAGE).  So awesome.  THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING IT!!!!

(Side-note:  Just the Warner Brothers-issued standard VH cassettes were a big part of my life.  I used to, as a twelve year old in 1982, deliver afternoon newspapers with my Walkman on (& braces :-)).  The machine wore batteries down quick.  I had the 'Take Your Whiskey Home' tape-slowdown-ending effect going-on nearly every two songs, thanks to Sony!!  Fun memories of simpler times...).

I think you're doing a great thing for us with a great (very much due) amount of reverence for the band.  Can't wait for Nuno, Part 2.  (I imagine you'll be talking about 'Mutha'.  That song IS a proper nod...).

Matthew S.

The cassette tape..."Edward Van Halen, searching for something new"...fucking incredible.  Thank you for this gem!

Dweezil

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.

Part 1 with Nuno is yet another amazing podcast. I was crying happy tears listening throughout. As a fan and musical novice. The detailed analysis you guys make... help me understand more clearly how and why Van Halens music and Edward playing has captivated me. Thx Dweezil and Nuno. Cant wait for part 2.
