DZ. I just finished the Nuno episode. Just tremendous. I loved how you talked about the “swing” and outside influences. Between that and the archives of alternate takes or live takes, it was magic.
I particularly like how you and Nuno break down the details on the riffs and the funky pocket. Do you know how Edward felt about this body of work (FW & W&CF) as time passed?
Thanks, Robert! When I talked with Edward about his music it was clear to me that it was just a joy for him to play guitar. He did say that he really liked the Fair Warning album.
I could alway remember being there back in 1981when Eddie and Dave ran out to the front of the stage and shoved that solo into our faces while the cowbell and bass just pounded our chests from Hea About it Later. You and Nuno going over it again and again brought it all back in a way I didn't think possible. So powerful...
Hearing such reverence for not just Eddie, but for the whole of Van Halen is so refreshing.
Thanks again for all this... Reminding us how special Ed was and how lucky we were to have even a glimpse of his incredible depth of abilities...
I always thought Could This Be Magic was a live take: Ed and Mike on guitars (makes sense), Al is foot-tapping, and Dave and Nicolette on vox? Will see if we can find answers...
thank you for the prompt reply - you're doing a stella job !! I understand . Love the Sunset Sound interviews too . re the Sound recreation platforms - any chance you could include the Hotone Ampero please ?? .
Hi , really love this Dweezil - an excellent concept too . Having signed up for the full 5150 package can you please advise when I will gain access to all episodes as well as the extra's ?
Happy New Year! Thanks for joining in on the podcast. The series is in production so episodes are premiering weekly. I've been having computer issues as of late so EP 6 has been delayed. I'm working hard to solve the failed hard drive problem. In any case, by purchasing the 5150 package you have access to every episode for streaming and download. You should be able to access all of the episodes on the site. Other features of the bundle haven't rolled out yet. We will soon be doing online listening parties. I'm also in the research and development stages of the episode where I recreate the Van Halen guitar sound on multiple platforms.
I hope that answer helps! Thanks for your support! DZ
Any update on timeline for the upcoming episode(s)? Also would be nice to outline how and when we get the other things mentioned in the package - Premier Guitar sub and guitar tone patches.
Happy New Year! I've been having computer issues as of late so EP 6 (Fair Warning) has been delayed. I'm working hard to solve the failed hard drive problem. I'm really excited for you to hear the episode and I suggest wearing headphones for this one! There are a lot of special treats!!!
As soon as I'm able, I will be doing some updates to let people know about the other goodies in the package.
Hey Dweezil, happy New Year to you and everyone else here
Thanks a million for doing this, I’m enjoying every minute of it. As I was re-listening to some of the earlier episodes over the Holidays I made a little discovery of my own: from the way Paul Gilbert performed the chordal volume swells in the intro to You’re No Good I realized that these are virtually identical to those that close Tattoo (it’s my favorite part of that song). It's the same chord sequence, but as an opener the A-pedal in the bass gives it a very different vibe, while as a closing statement it ends on a sus. Why not take a great opening sequence a make it a great closing sequence Always fun to see Edward move ideas around
Can’t wait for the Fair Warning episodes, Nuno’s one of my all-time favorites and Fair Warning is just about perfect!
Another great couple of pod casts with Blues. Never knew about Nicolette Larson's background vocals and then Eddie subsequently playing on her song. So cool
Hey Dweezil, I have 2 questions and 2 observations...
This is honestly the best guitar podcast I have ever heard and I hang on every analyzation when I am not laughing. My questions are, when does the next episode on "Fair Warning" w Nuno drop? Was hoping for it Christmas Eve but assuming will be after holidays... And in that episode (or any upcoming) will you be telling th story of how the "Rasta" guitar was given to you that he played on that tour?
My two observations... This podcast has got me registering to everything VH with a critical ear. Has anyone noticed, since "Diver Down" is approaching, these two things I keep thinking about... During "Intruder" around the 10 second mark it sounds like Eddie is having a conversation, mimicking talking on his guitar in a way. Anyone else wonder if this was some sort of influence or inspiration for the intro "talking" on David Lee Roth's "Yankee Rose"? Or on "The Full Bug" around 2:17 it isn't the same riff but it is REALLY similar in feel/sound/vibe to Ratt's "Way Cool Jr" (which also has a bridge Warren used from an exercise Dweezil's dad showed him)...
I am sorry DeMartini didn't do an episode, hoping one day to hear the two of you guys talk shop.
Hey Dweezil...I am watching a ton of videos on YouTube but I am not convinced that they have the opening riff of Unchained correct. I had taken a group lesson from you a couple years ago and kick myself for not asking you to show us the correct way to play it. If you could spare a couple minutes just to break down the greatest riff in the history of rock and roll it would be greatly appreciated.
I can listen to Steve and Dweezil all night. Such great people. I've been lucky enough to meet Dweezil 3 times, twice with my daughter, and he has been such a generous guy.
Seasons Greetings from 'Down Under' Dweezil...what an awesome package you've put together! Big fan of yours for a long time, and we actually have a mutual friend down here in Melbourne-town. I actually found some very good Kemper VH profiles, that I used when I was asked to headline at last years Melbourne Guitar Show to play all of VH1 album from start to finish. (If you want to hear how they translated on the gig, you can see the show here bit.ly/2UHABOz
I ended up tweaking them a bit of course to get them even closer to the record, and so would be more than happy to hand them over to you for your '5150 package' materials if you like? - after all, everyone should get to enjoy them.
Thank you again sir, for bringing us all together. Grieving Eddie was pretty rough down here in Melbourne, because we were in full lockdown at the time, and so could not get together even with one person to raise a glass. Your podcast bringing all sorts of wonderful players together is a BIG help.
Thanks for the kind words! I watched your concert and it was great! It's not easy playing those songs! I also liked your own additions in the outro of House Of Pain. When it comes time to do the episode on the reverse engineering the Brown Sound it would great to include your presets for the Kemper folks! Once again, great playing! Best, DZ
Merry Xmas! What a gift you've given us. If all you got for $51.50 were the two Steve Vai episodes... it would still be well worth the money. What an amazing 2 hours or so of praise, admiration and the detailed dissection of Edward's music. Wow!! Thank you Dweezil and of course thank you Steve.
the episode with Paul Gilbert is fantastic, great to hear you both discuss it while Paul is playing it on his guitar. He is a freak !!

Nice touch with the Jacob Deraps outro....love the production you are doing on these episode. Another great one!

You guys hit something that was missing in the first episodes..... how swinging Michael was.
I’ve heard the bass so clearly listening to these interviews.. Something about the small iPad speakers maybe, . but Mikey is just SWINGING.
THIS NUNO EPISODE THO!!
I hope you're enjoying it! I worked hard to make it special!
I can tell! It's SO good! The funk clip from Shoogagoogagunga made me laugh out loud!
Awww man! I wish Dweezil would have elaborated with Steve on the ghost in David Lee Roth's house on episode one!!
I always thought Could This Be Magic was a live take: Ed and Mike on guitars (makes sense), Al is foot-tapping, and Dave and Nicolette on vox? Will see if we can find answers...

Just signed up for the 5150 package last night and listened to the first part of the Blues Saraceno podcast, so funny.
How does the whole thing work? Is the Sammy era stuff available down the line after it's produced and how do I access the Axe Fx patches etc?
Also I've only got an Axe 2 mark 1
